Kyleen Waltman, a South Carolina woman, has suffered catastrophic injuries in a dog attack in Abbeville County, South Carolina.
According to WSPA news, Waltman was attacked by three dogs when she was walking from her boyfriend’s home to her mother’s home. Waltman’s friends said the dogs jumped on her, and she struggled to fight them off. The victim suffered severe trauma and is in critical but stable condition.
Permanent Injuries Caused by Dog Attack
This incident is illustrative of how horrific a dog attack can be. Waltman’s friend said the dogs “pretty much ripped all the meat from her arms, and she has a hole in the back of her head.” She has lost her colon and both of her arms, and her esophagus, even though doctors managed to save her legs. The dogs let go of Waltman only after a passerby scared them away. The man was forced to fire a gun to get the dogs away from Waltman, who could remain in the hospital for three to four months. She will also require rehabilitation after her initial treatment. Waltman’s employer, a local restaurant, is collecting money to help pay her medical bills. Local animal control officers have taken possession of the dogs, but there is no word yet on whether or not the owner will face charges for the brutal dog attack. The incident remains under investigation by local police and animal control officials. Our hearts go out to Waltman and her family. We wish her well on her tough road to recovery and will keep her in our prayers.Justice and Compensation for Victims
This horrific dog attack shows the damage that can be done when dogs attack in packs. We have seen a number of these incidents in Southern California as well. Dog owners have a responsibility to keep their pets in an enclosure and not allow them to roam around in the neighborhood. By doing so, they put their neighbors and community in serious danger. In such cases, injured victims can file a dog bite lawsuit against the owner seeking compensation for damages, including medical expenses, lost income, the cost of hospitalization, rehabilitation, permanent injuries, disabilities, pain and suffering, and emotional distress. In addition, victims can also seek reimbursement for the cost of psychological therapy or counseling they may need.
