Ford Recalls Vehicles for Safety Issues

Ford Recalls Vehicles for Safety Issues

Ford Motor Company has issued two recalls for its F Series Super Duty trucks and Explorer models. According to news reports, the automaker has issued an amended recall for its Escape models. The F-Series Super Duty pickup truck recall affects 28,579 vehicles in the U.S., 4,316 in Canada, and 73 in Mexico. The recall was issued for the 2019 F-Series Super Duty truck models whose passenger-side axle shaft may have been produced with a steel material that doesn’t meet the company’s specifications and could cause it to fracture.

Details of Three Separate Recalls

Because of this issue, the passenger-side axle problem could cause a loss of power while driving in two-wheel drive and the inability to hold the park function. Vehicles could move unintentionally or inadvertently if the parking brake is not applied, increasing the risk of a crash or injury. The recalled Super Duty trucks were produced at Ford’s Kentucky Truck Plant and Ohio Assembly Plant from May 21 through July 26. When the recall begins, Ford will inspect the axle shaft and replace them if necessary. Until the repair is completed, vehicle owners are advised to apply the parking brake when parking the vehicle.

The second Ford recall was issued for 2020 Explorer vehicles equipped with a 2.3-liter or 3.3-liter gas engine. The recall affects 10,655 vehicles in the United States. The Explorers may have a wiring harness that is not adequately secured, which could come into contact with the air conditioning pulley, damaging the wiring harness.

This could result in a short circuit or vehicle fire. The recalled Explorer SUVs were built at Ford’s Chicago Assembly Plant from May 28 through July 18. To remedy the wiring harness issue, Ford dealers will secure the harness and fix any damage caused. Ford says it is not aware of any reports of accidents, injuries, or fires related to the recall. The final recall involves 9,350 Escape vehicles that may be missing a third pawl, which could impact seatback strength and increase the risk of injury during a crash.
