Ford is recalling 58,000 of its 2012-2014 and 2017 Focus vehicles because of the incomplete software update they received as part of a prior recall. According to Consumer Reports, the earlier recall was meant to fix a problem with the gas tank that could cause the vehicle to lose power, inaccurate readings, or an indicator light signaling a malfunction has occurred. If a car loses power while in motion, the crash risk increases. So far, Ford says it is unaware of any car accidents or injuries related to this vehicle defect.
Recall Details
The problem with these vehicles is that defective software may not respond when needed when a malfunctioning valve sticks open, potentially deforming the fuel tank. If this happens, owners may see a warning light, an inaccurate gas gauge, or act of erraticism, or a loss of power. Ford is asking affected vehicle owners to keep their gas tanks at least half full until the recalled vehicles are repaired.
This is to prevent the vehicle from unexpectedly running out of gas. When the recall begins, dealers will reprogram the affected vehicle’s software to prevent the emissions system from malfunctioning and replace the components as needed, all at no charge to vehicle owners. Ford is asking customers to contact their dealership to schedule this repair. For more information, call Ford at 1-866-436-7332.
Auto Defects and Liability Issues
Vehicle stalling is a serious problem. When vehicles stall, drivers could lose control, leading to a crash. Also, when vehicles unexpectedly stall on a busy roadway or freeway, other vehicles are likely to strike the stalled car. We see these types of incidents resulting in major injuries or even fatalities.
If a defective auto caused your injuries, you may be able to file an auto product liability claim against the manufacturer, seeking compensation for damages such as medical expenses, lost wages, hospitalization, rehabilitation, pain and suffering, and emotional distress.
Our attorneys have represented individuals who have suffered catastrophic injuries, such as traumatic brain injury and paralysis, as a result of defective vehicles or vehicle safety systems that failed to work during a car crash. Our auto defect law firm has the resources it takes to thoroughly and independently investigate these cases and ensure that our clients get justice and fair compensation for their losses.
