Driver Killed After Big Rig is Rear Ended on 91 Freeway in Long Beach

big rig accident

The driver of a big rig that was rear-ended on the 91 Freeway in Long Beach died from the sustained injuries. According to a report in the Long Beach Press Telegram, the fatal truck accident occurred early morning on June 5 in the eastbound lanes west of Susana Road. The driver who triggered the crash was arrested, California Highway Patrol officials said.

Fatal Truck Accident

Officials said 25-year-old Bryan Tostado of Norwalk was speeding in a 2004 Toyota in the number one lane when his vehicle struck the center divider and rear-ended a 2022 Freightliner. The person who died lost control of the big rig, which then left the roadway. The victim was described as a 57-year-old Santa Ana resident and was pronounced dead at the scene. Tostado was transported to an area hospital with minor injuries. He was later arrested, although it was not clear what potential charges he faced. The investigation is ongoing.

We offer our deepest condolences to the family members of the deceased truck driver. They will be in our thoughts and prayers.

What Caused This Crash?

Based on this news report, it is still unclear what caused this fatal crash. Some news reports stated that Tostado was driving at a high or unsafe rate of speed. There are several other questions as well. Was Tostado under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs? Was he driving while distracted or fatigued? A number of rear-end accidents occur because drivers are unattentive. We trust officials are looking into what caused this particular fatal rear-end collision.

In this particular case, because the big rig’s driver was on the job, his family may be able to receive workers’ compensation benefits. In addition, they may be able to file a wrongful death lawsuit against the at-fault driver, seeking compensation for damages such as medical expenses, funeral costs, lost future income, pain and suffering, and loss of love, care and companionship.

In such cases, injured victims or families that have lost loved ones would be well advised to contact an experienced Long Beach personal injury lawyer who will be able to analyze all aspects of the incident and make sure that their legal rights and best interests are protected.
